Cohousing Co-operative Ltd

Contact Us

The Cohousing Co-operative Ltd was formed in the early 1990s, in Hobart, Tasmania, to provide tenant-managed community housing in cohousing projects.

Housing is open to Tasmanian residents who must rent somewhere to live (they do not own property), though generally we give priority to people who meet housing need criteria. See How to apply to live in Cohousing Co-operative for more.

The Co-operative was started with some resources from our sibling, Cascade Cohousing— a strata title equity cohousing project. And which is only 300 metres away from the Co-operative's cohousing site in Hobart, Tasmania. It took the Co-operative nearly a decade to aquire full funding, identify a site, purchase, design and build.

What is Cohousing?

Cohousing is a Danish inspired residential project design. While no two cohousings are exactly the same they all include a commonhouse with common facilities in addition to private residential dwellings. The focus of cohousing is on an easy-going accidental community of the everyday. (See this US site or this UK site for more.)
